The Fiat Multipla Was an Incredibly Quirky (and Ugly) Family Car

Komentarjev

  • It's very rare in parts of Europe too. I can't remember the last time I saw one in Norway and there don't appears to be a single one for sale here right now.

  • 0:41 was expecting a Steve Ballmer screaming. I watch too much YTP.

  • I think fiat was hoping this would replace the taxi cab. It has a strangely similar shape, and is maximizing on passengers and utility

  • Beats me how anyone could actually buy it. How is it even legal to have the speedometer like that, meaning you loose focus on the driving. Unbelievable.

  • You can play this video at .75x speed and Doug still sounds too excited lol

  • 27:10 Watching the white pickup truck pull up next to the other white pickup in the McDonald's drive thru

  • The older Buicks sedans were 6 seaters but looked waaaay nicer

  • The quirkiest thing in this video is definitely Doug

  • Honestly, I find the big windows unique in a good way. I would buy it just for that.

  • If Doug was a car lol

  • The rear end reminds me of a doge caravan

  • That Purple/Grey dash uses the same colour scheme as 1990s Sun microsystems servers

  • Now I just need one of these bad Bois parked next to my Aztek

  • Hey Doug, how about when you do the plug for Cars and Bids you tell us the name of the actual car you're standing in front of??? I find it sort of weird that you don't.

  • The fiat multipla had many great ideas, but it was ruined by its very poor design

  • Doug also wears two pairs of underwear.

  • This was rebadged as the Rover James

  • Jeremy Clarkson once reviewed this and thought it was a great car.

  • Are you high off cars, Doug? 🚗 💨

  • Doug is such a silly guy. I feel like you could invite him to just about anything and he could have a good time.

  • I'm a car guy's car guy. I have NEVER, EVER, EVER, seen or heard of this car, Doug. You're the QUIRKIEST of the QUIRKY!

  • I dont know why but it reminds me of Amy Schumer for some reason..

  • Whoa how does this guy afford so many cars? I make good money as a medical director right now but even I can't afford the stuff I see on his channel

    • LOVE the renault 5 in the background

  • This is the greatest car I ever saw!

  • Honestly this seemed masterpiece to me back in the day..

  • I have been there. It os worth the 10 bucks or so it costs to get in if you really like weird cars.

  • Dude, you forgot to mention that you can easily remove the freaking seats, turning it into a van.

  • im convinced that Doug never washes his knees. come on bro that shit looks so disgusting

  • It is not a luxury car, more a convenience and commercial vehicle, not pretty but a rational car. It sold almost 3 million units, so so bad, right?

  • I remember seeing one of these in Paris a few years back and thinking "What the fuck is the rolling shit show?" It has to be French. I was wrong. :-D

  • Quando o Multipla foi lançado, gostei de ser escandalizado com o seu desenho. Se uma pessoa entrasse de olhos fechados, adoraria o carro, pelo espaço interior e practicalidade.

  • I was cross-shopping this against the Homer, but at $82k the Homer was way too expensive for much fewer seats. So the Multipla wasn't so bad.

  • Sadly no one mentioned that the main purpose for this car was for people with disabilities, this is why everything is on one place. It is for more easier usage. And it had to be cheap,.. Well not sure why the outside looks like it is. But it is convenient for people who use wheelchair. Flies away

  • My neighbour had one, was great as the extra seat meant I could go with them on trips, good memories!

  • The sticky out part on the handle is so that it doesn’t hit a wall and damage the paint 🎨

  • Some crazy French guys are actually building a 1000 horsepower racing Multipla! #Vilebrequin#Milletipla

  • LOVE the renault 5 in the background

  • Dear God, what is this lunatic on?

  • Ugly? Have you seen chevys lately? 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

  • He didn't notice that you can easly remove the back sits. Very useful to carry stuff!

  • Imagine if the driver seat was in middle...

  • As a German, I am used to seeing it but I still love it. It's so ugly that it's charming, and it's one of those cars only a mother could love.

  • - Hello? Police? I'd like to report a break into my garage? - Ok. What was stolen? - Um... nothing, but someone put a Multipla into my garage.

  • Fyi: During the 13-year production run 2.7 million units were produced.

  • A french youtube channel called "Vilebrequin" is building a 1000hp Multipla. The subscribers raised over 1 millions dollars for the project :) !!! It will receive the engine of a corvette (700hp) and will be tuned to at least 1000hp, can't wait to see the final result !

  • looks also similar to a nissan cube

    • What? The Nissan cube looks way better

  • It's very ugliness was why I loved it

  • @8:10 the part protruding from the handles, provides protection for other vehicles when you open the door in a parking lot. Just like all modern Škoda or some Ford do. Here in Italy parking spots are usually narrow and close to each other. Dents and scratches on doors are fairly common for “careless door opening” in Supermarket parking lots…

  • Odd comment here, but why is this thing so dirty? I'm by no means a detail freak but that things pretty filthy.

  • Finally someone said it😂

  • I think the purple is really blue on the seats. They stole the seats from a plane

  • Very nice video. While we're at italian cars can you please do a video about the Alfa Romeo Spider 916? I would love to see that

  • What's the slots right underneath the air vents

  • reminds me of a beluga whale

  • By far the most funny Doug video 😂

  • Door handle jolts serve as bumpers to protect the door edges from scratching.

  • Doug is just too hyped up about that test drive 😂😂😂 love to see it

  • 25:44 wrong multipla got many's diesel engines too and its for Europe so stop crying over a 1,6 i

  • i want one now

  • I enjoyed it!

  • slcd.info/drink/video/0Wtj2LWD3cratYg

  • The sheer excitement while going through the dash storage, this guy really loves reviewing weird designs.

  • 15:14 all of this, on a Fiat, comes as no surprise.

  • 21:40 the Renault laguna had the same buckle in the back-center seat

  • This man travels across the United States just to review

  • I always took these things for commercial vehicles rather than personal vehicles lmao

  • Almost all shifters has a snap or velchro. What planet are you from?

  • If the Multipla is rockin, don't bother knockin!

  • Why should a passenger touch the air conditioning controls? The driver decides all that...

  • The rubber things on the doors is to protect other cars from damage in the parking lot...why are you just making random s*it up if you don't know?! 😂😂😂🙈

  • You should try to find a Mercedes-Benz W169. It looks weird as well but it is much safer than the Multipla. And better designed for daily use.

  • Doug you're fantastically funny :-D

  • it is getting cooler every year. Future classic!

    • YES PLS. SO WE DONT HAVE TO BUY THIS "THING"

  • Great video

  • just a fact: Fiat wanted to quit Multipla production in the 2005 in order to give space to the new Croma. Well, customers were so pushing that Fiat had to keep on making it until 2010. On top of that, basically Multipla marketing costs were minimal: the car success was based on word-on-mouth. I'm from Turin, and I had a Multipla. Best car ever.

  • A Multipla is also extremely unsafe to be in if you crash it. The change of surviving is close to zero.

  • central console's style reminds me about Urdak/Maykr's style in Doom Eternal!

  • I’m getting tired of Doug mocking and laughing out loudly at these (admittedly) wierd and strange cars. It is possible to make your point across a bit more maturely and with a touch more dignity. You wouldn’t get the same review at Harry’s Garage, if you know what I mean.

  • Or for all the practicality with far fewer quirks, a better engine and better build quality, you bought a Honda FR-V. I've had my FR-V from new for 13 years and over 110,000 miles. With three seats up front it is perfect for a family of three because everyone gets to sit in the front. It's been a brilliant family taxi and holiday car ... without the Multipla's challenging looks and Fiat toy plastics. It's a real shame that the 3+3 seating didn't catch on.

  • I'm waiting for your review of the Renault Avantime, thanks to the Lane Museum.

  • I actually kinda like it that ain’t ugly I love it

  • Doug probably felt quirky sitting on that driver's seat, which is on the correct side.

  • I couldn't stop staring at Doug's dirty knee

  • what was the designer thinking ...

  • Could you do a quirky description of the BMW E46 compact? Xdddd pleasee

  • Make a car that looks like it has a rubber band on it....done

  • In Poland we say “your face reassembles a Multipla” to offend somebody. Fun fact: it was a popular car here in Poland.

  • Doug needs to put the air conditioning on in this car. Poor guy is working up a sweat lol.

  • Lol. Doug incredibly excited, and this car in a museum hahaha. Here in NL you buy these for around $800 🤣

  • Sadly the rover James blew up but if you can find a top gear creation that would be awesome lol

  • Multipla was designed by drunks angels

  • show us that Renault 5 Turbo 2!!!

  • Multiplas were often used by drug/guns smugglers because they had a lot of empty space in the floor where you could stash brick size packages :)

  • I'm not seeing a purple interior...it looks blue...

  • I went on vacation in the south of Italy in 2018, and I was quite surprised a lot of people still drive them around there. They must be cheap and reliable enough to drive them there. I don't see them much in the North though. Probably because they are a tad old and people in the north seem to be driving more modern cars, which this really isn't.

  • You know that catalitic converter for that car cost around 3500 dollars :D

  • It's like a futuristic car is coming out of the body of an old 90's car.
